Why One Mom Chose Littlebird After A School Lockdown

As a mom of two, I found myself in a place I think a lot of parents know well: my kids were no longer babies, but they also weren’t old enough for a phone.

That in-between stage can feel surprisingly unsupported. I wanted the peace of mind of knowing where my children were throughout the day, especially at school, but I didn’t want to put a screen on their wrists. I didn’t want distraction, internet access, or social media becoming part of their lives earlier than necessary.

I just wanted to know they were safe.

When I first learned about Littlebird, I immediately understood it and the concept clicked right away. It felt like the answer to a problem so many parents quietly carry.

That became even more real when my son experienced a lockdown at school.

In a moment like that, every parent wants immediate reassurance. Being able to open the app and see where he was gave me a sense of clarity and calm that is hard to describe unless you’ve experienced that kind of fear. It made me realize how important this kind of tool could be.

At the time, my daughter was younger and wore Littlebird to preschool. Even though I worked in the same building, it still gave me comfort to check in and know exactly where she was. Now both of my children are in elementary school, and they wear Littlebird every day.

It has become part of the rhythm of our family life.

I can see when they get on and off the bus. I know when they leave the main school building for coding, music, or another class in a portable. I know when they return. I can see when they’re leaving school to come home. As a working mom, that kind of visibility matters deeply. It allows me to stay focused on my work while still feeling connected to my children’s safety throughout the day.

What I appreciate most is that it does all of this without introducing a screen.

My kids don’t need a smartwatch. They don’t need something interactive on their wrists during the school day. They don’t need the distraction of texting, internet access, or social media. For our family, Littlebird offers a better alternative, one that provides peace of mind without pushing them into technology they simply don’t need yet.

And my kids genuinely love it.

They think it looks good. My son is already asking about future colors, and my daughter proudly shows hers to her friends and teachers. My daughter shows it to her friends. Her teacher knows it by name. She'll tell anyone: that's my Littlebird. My mom can see where I am. It’s become something they wear with confidence, and I think part of that is because it helps them feel safe too. They know I can see where they are, and there’s comfort in that.

For our family, Littlebird is about more than tracking. It’s about creating a way to stay connected without compromising childhood. It’s about having safety without screens, reassurance without distraction, and a little more peace of mind in the middle of a busy day.

That’s why we chose Littlebird.
